Congrats, your hair and makeup trial is almost here, yay! That means that you are a short way away from your wedding day, and have already decided on a dress – isn’t that one of the most fun parts of planning a wedding? We sure love it! Having your hair and makeup trial, however, doesn’t mean that you just show up at the scheduled time and that’s that. On the contrary, in order to have a successful hair and makeup trail and feel like the most beautiful woman on the planet when it’s over, you need to do your homework – our guide on how to prepare for your hair and makeup trial:

Drink lots of water

Our first tip is a must for any person who wants to have great skin: drink lots and lots of water. First thing in the morning, before you jump in the shower, drink a glass of water. And keep drinking water throughout the day. It seems impossible that something as easy as drinking plenty of water can be the best skin treatment out there, but it is!

Nightly cleansing routine

It goes without saying that, especially if you wear makeup on a daily basis, you must wash your face every night. But even if you aren’t a makeup lover, you should still include a nightly cleansing as part of your nighttime routine. Think of all the dirt, gook and pollution that your skin is exposed to day after day. Going to bed with clean skin will not only keep your skin healthy, it will also help you get a relaxing night’s sleep too.

 Do your research

This point is two-fold, as it covers doing your research to find a makeup artist that is suitable for you, AND doing your research online to gather photos of your preferred Bridal style.

Firstly, when researching hair and makeup artists, it is important not only to see their previous work, but analyze their Bridal style. If you are looking to have Kardashian-style contouring, for example, perhaps a makeup artist that specializes in natural, sun-kissed bohemians Brides isn’t right for you. So, check out their previous work, take a look at photos of their real Brides and assess whether you’ve found the perfect HMAO for you.

Secondly, research online to find inspirational photos to show your HMAO. Pinterest is a fantastic resource for finding photos, in addition to websites and Instagram, as it helps you get a very clear picture (no pun intended) of your preferred Bridal style. Create a board, and pin photos of the Bridal styles you love. Go back to the board, and see what elements they all have in common. Discard the photos that have nothing in common with the rest, and you will be able to narrow down the exact style you are envisioning. And, of course, share this board with your HMAO prior to the trial.

 Share photos of you

Sharing a variety of photos of you with your HMAO is very helpful, as it allows them to gain a full understanding of what your preferred style is. Send them photos of your day-to-day style and of your night / formal style so they can see what you feel comfortable and beautiful with.

Furthermore, this will let them help you ascertain which Bridal style will be best for you. There are many Brides who are laidback on a day to day basis, and go all out on their wedding day – making them seem like a completely different person! We even had one Groom tell his Bride on their wedding day that he thought she was more beautiful on any given day of the year, and that he hardly recognized her when she walked down the aisle. Don’t let that be you! On your wedding day, you want to feel like a heightened, more beautiful version of you – the key word being YOU. Don’t try to be someone else on such an important day…

And, share photos of you wearing your wedding dress, and possibly of the wedding bouquet as well. This will also give them insight into your nuptial style and help them in assessing you.

Skin allergies

The more information you give your HMAO prior to the trial, the better, so be certain to let them know if you are allergic to any components in makeup prior to the trial; they may need to stock up on a different brand of makeup just for you. You wouldn’t want to walk out of the trial with an allergic reaction or a breakout on your face, so if you have sensitive skin, send them a detailed list of what brands and/or substances can and cannot be used on your skin.

 It’s time for the trial

The day is here, and it is time for you to have your trial, how exciting! Don’t forget to bring your makeup bag, as you may want to use one of your own items, such as lipstick or blush. This will be very practical for you, so that on your wedding day you don’t need to pay your HMAO to stay overtime for touch-ups.

Wash your hair the night before, never on the morning of! As surprising as it may seem, clean hair is harder to style, precisely because it is so clean. Wash your hair the night before and let it air dry – no styling please.

….And, our last tip of the day is: schedule your dress trial on the same day as your hair and makeup trial, so that when you are done, you can go try on your dress and see the overall look. This will be as close as you get to seeing exactly how you will look on your wedding day, so if you can make it happen, go for it! Wear your wedding jewelry as well and any other accessory that you have chosen – i.e., veil, cape, flowers…

We wish you a fun and very glamourous hair and makeup trial, and hope this has been helpful in getting you ready for the trial.
